Improvisation Series
In 2020, during lockdown, I started painting while my husband, Francesco, a jazz pianist/composer, was playing piano and composing new music. I was upstairs in my studio, and he was downstairs in the music room. I spoke about the experience in an interview:
What does improvisation bring to your paintings?
Painting while listening to live jazz improvisation brings spontaneity, innovation, and unexpected results. I see it as a moving meditation because I am focused on the present moment and the process of painting, rather than working in a premeditated or deliberate way. The music flows through me as I paint.
